As you pass through perimenopause into menopause, your drop in hormones may lead to some unfortunate side effects, such as vaginal dryness, painful sex, and bladder problems such as frequent or urgent urination, or leakage (incontinence). To address these issues and more, Dr. Gila Leiter, Dr. Shari Leipzig, and Dr. Douglas Moss have equipped Park Avenue Women’s Center with the MonaLisa Touch®. This laser system helps women in New York City's Yorkville, Upper East Side, live healthy, sexually active lives through menopause and beyond. If you’d like to explore how MonaLisa Touch can help you, call the office or schedule a consultation using the online booking tool.
Using a wand, your OB/GYN directs CO2 laser energy into your vaginal walls to stimulate a healing response. The energy is painless and doesn’t harm the surface of your vaginal walls, but goes to work below the surface to encourage the growth of healthier tissue.
As you age, your hormone levels begin to drop, and this can lead to loss of vaginal lubrication, thinning of vaginal walls due to collagen loss, and painful atrophy. Through laser energy, the MonaLisa Touch creates a mild healing response in your body, and the first thing to answer the call is usually your collagen.
Your collagen provides the foundational support for your skin and tissue, but as production wanes with age, your vaginal tissue can become thin and fragile. This external boost prompts your body to increase collagen production and improve elasticity and circulation.

Talk to your OB/GYN at Park Avenue Women’s Center to find out whether MonaLisa Touch is right for you.
Most women do well with three treatments spaced six weeks apart. Your OB/GYN performs the MonaLisa Touch treatments in the Park Avenue Women’s Center office. Treatments take less than five minutes each. Since the treatment is painless, there’s no downtime, and you’re free to go about your daily routine afterward. Typically, it’s recommended to avoid sexual intercourse for 3-4 days after the procedure, however.
The reason the treatments are spaced six weeks apart is to allow time for your body’s healing resources to respond and rebuild.
Your results are gradual as you progress through your treatments and your tissue rebuilds. Some women experience an improvement after the first treatment, while others improve more slowly.
During this time, there are no other instructions except you should avoid sexual intercourse or vaginal treatments until your OB/GYN gives you the go-ahead.
If you want to enjoy your postmenopausal years, MonaLisa Touch provides an excellent solution. To learn more, call the office or schedule an appointment online.
